Really Google? Why might all sites (including your own) harm my computer?

picture-4So I was searching for green bean casserole when Google decided to tell me that about.com might harm my computer. After a quick search to see if my own site would come up with the warning, I began to realize that every site in the search results had the “This site may harm your computer” link under them.

I then did a quick search for “Google”… only to find out that it too was subject to it’s own vice grip on my search results. Crazy. Google clearly has a bug in that feature or they just hate me.

In an effort to stop the zombified group of computer users that no longer read warning dialogs (aka me), Google doesn’t even provide a link to continue to the site on the warning page. They simply print the full url of the page you were intending to go to.

Now, of course… as I’m finishing this blog, Google is back to normal. Looks like they fixed whatever issue they ran into.

I think they stated that every site that had a “script” tag might harm your computer. The problem is just that most sites do have an script tag, and most of them are harmless.
